That's about the only word I'd use to describe this year's Scottish Modified Car Show. Previously known as the Fast & Modified show (but now under new management hence the name change), the SMC Show promised people a show with a difference and that promise was delivered. First up a bit of disclosure, after leaving F&M mag two years ago I was back involved with the running of this year's show but I'm not being biased when I say that it was head and shoulders above previous years in terms of quality, content and atmosphere - the whole team behind putting the show on really excelled and the visitors appreciated it! One of the main complaints you get at shows is "its the same old same old" and that's been true in the past. There aren't a million radically styled cars leaving Ecosse, Kenny Laird, Calder Coach Crafts and other bodyshops on a weekly basis. Things have slowed right down and that's across the board, from the heavy horsepower to the big installs. What I planned to do with this year's show was bring together a mix of ALL styles of car and have them all displayed together. It was tricky to do but by sticking to the plan the show ended up having just the right mix of modified hatchbacks (Ecosse, Kenny Laird, CARS), serious performance monsters (Keith Cowie, Baz / Titan, Envy Performance) plus a healthy dose of classic and retro motors too. Something for everyone and laid out in a way that people could appreciate them all mixed together. Voici l’album coup de poing de ce début d’année. Une sorte d’uppercut en pleine mâchoire qui devrait vous laisser K.O. ; K.O. devant autant de talent, pantois devant un personnalité si affirmée, bouche bée devant une soul si authentique, sonné devant un album aussi bien ficelé. Amy Winehouse avec son album « Back to black » annonce la couleur. Le retour au son black d’une époque révolue sans pour autant tenter d’imiter ou de plagier ses ainés de Motown, Stax, Curtom ou autre Sussex Records. Les chansons sont universelles et racées, la production précise et chaleureuse, (Amy a fait appel à Salaam Remi et Mark Ronson deux des pointures de la production R’n’B) et le tout fait de ce disque un album complet, authentique et intense. En grande partie car l’artiste chante ses propres textes tous tirés de son expérience personnelle, riche en insoumissions et rébellions variées… Back to black n’est pas un disque pour spécialistes de soul mais un disque pour amoureux de musique, un disque qui fait le pont entre passé et présent, entre générations, et qui va au-delà des genres.
